Unexpected Joys

Some of you have asked about my dog, Jake, and how he has been since his health began to decline last year. I am happy to report that he is still with us and is walking well, despite the amputation of his toe. His thyroid levels have balanced out and he has regained some energy, thanks to daily thyroid and pain medications. It has been wonderful to watch Jake enjoy physical activity once again.

One of our readers recently shared a story about how one of her dogs "bounced back"—in part because of The O&P EDGE. This reader thanked us for the bouncy balls we gave away at our American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) 38th Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium booth, in Atlanta, Georgia. One of her dogs had passed away recently, and her dog's loyal companion, Elvis, was devastated. She had taken the ball home from the meeting to annoy her colleagues, but while showing it to her husband, Elvis got very excited and started playing with it. "I just wanted to thank whoever came up with it because it really helped Elvis come out of his grief," she wrote. "You never know what life you will touch with something fun." The story brought tears to my eyes.

At last month's Academy meeting, we debuted our new division, EDGE Custom Publications. Practitioners can use this regular, ongoing communication tool with new and existing patients and referral sources. They can also keep it handy in waiting rooms. We hope you find that with your ideas and licensed content from The O&P EDGE, together we can design a unique, high-end specialty publication that will position your patient care facility as the orthotics, prosthetics, and/or pedorthics expert in your region. To find out more and get started designing your own EDGE Custom Publication, visit www.oandp.com/edgecustompubs, or call us and we will help you.

Congratulations to Andrew Cinque, CPO, for winning the iPad2 that we gave away at the Academy Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium. I also want to thank all of our guests who joined us at our tenth anniversary party and OPAF First Bid Live & Silent Auction. According to OPAF, this year's event brought in more money than any previous year. Thanks for donating! I hope you had a good time.
